How to Calculate Net Worth?

## What are Assets?

Assets are items that are owned by you and have a monetary value, they can be liquid assets and illiquid assets. Income is not considered an asset!

Liquid assets such as cash, checking accounts, savings, etc., are all considered liquid because they can be converted to cash quickly. Illiquid assets would include your home and locked-in investments that cannot be converted to cash quickly.

## What are Liabilities?

Liabilities are debts that are owed by you in the short and long term. This includes examples such as credit card debt, student loans, mortgages, personal loans, etc.

## How to calculate your net worth?

Net worth is calculated by taking all your assets and adding it up, followed by subtracting all your liabilities.

### Net Worth = Assets - Liabilities

1. Determine everything you own that can be counted as an asset, as shown in the calculator
2. Determine all your debts owed that have to be paid back
3. In order to calculate net worth, simply add all your assets and subtract all liabilities from the total

### For example:

1. Assets
• Checking Accounts = \$10,000
• Savings Accounts = \$20,000
• Retirements Accounts = \$70,000
• Investments = \$30,000
• Real-estate = \$200,000
• Auto = \$20,000

2. Liabilities
• Mortgage = \$250,000
• Debt = \$10,000
• Personal Loans = 5,000
• Student Loans = \$20,000
• Auto Loans = \$15,000

3. Net Worth = Assets - Liabilities
• Total Assets = \$350,000
• Total Liabilities = \$300,000

Net Worth
= \$350,000 - \$300,000
= \$50,000
